Lets Face the Music and Dance

I first heard this song performed by Diana Krall, and I loved her latin feel to it. Sadly, without her resources I can only record the versions that are available to me in backing tracks. But I do love this song, and even enjoyed this version. Click here or on the image to hear...

Laura

This is a beautiful song from a movie about a young man who falls inexorably in love with a young woman who has passed away. I first heard this song performed by the late Marc Hunter, who sadly died of throat cancer - an ignominious and tragic end for such a great singer. On this song I am backed by legendary pianist George Shearing...he just doesn't know it yet....;-)

In My Loneliness

Meditation is a great song, another from the genius of Carlos Jobim. He of course has written other great numbers such as Desafinado and The Girl from Ipanema. I love the melody of this song, the lyric, the rhythm and the sentiment. I hope you enjoy my version. Click here or on the picture to listen...

Crossroads

When Eric Clapton and the boys from Cream got their hands on this Robert Johnson blues classic, they gave it a rock and roll makeover that makes you wonder who sold whose soul to the Devil. From the guitar work on that song I think it was Clapton. That's too high a price to play guitar if you ask me, but click here to listen my version of a song about a man who believes he's sinking down...

What's The Time?

Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is? Well, that is the question Chicago asked in the early 70's and now, more than ever, humankind needs to look at the watch. Time is of the essence. I have walked through killing fields and torture cells of Cambodia, the site of the Mi Lai massacre in Vietnam and too many other places in the world where lives have been taken for political and economic agendas. Time is running out. This song has a message that we can each take on board for the daily run of our lives, and for us as a society. Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is? Click here or on the picture for my version.

My Personal Anthem? Its Easy...

For some, Easy is a daggy old song that Faith No More did an appropriate send up of. For me, its an anthem, a note to self. It is a song that says you have to be who you are or nothing works. Its not about settling for your present self, but knowing who you are and understanding that you can't be anything else - for anyone. To thine own self be true, Shakespeare said. In otherwords, we should be Easy, Easy like Sunday morning. Click here to listen to me sing one of my karaoke faves, a belter that has taken me through to a few Karaoke Finals...

Aint No Sunshine

Every now and again (although not for a long time) I manage to get the band back together for a bit of a blast. This slightly rocked up version of Aint No Sunshine is our kickoff song, our sound check as it were. In this version I play rhythm and lead guitars and bass, providing lead and backing vocal harmonies also. Click here or on the picture of me (and my handmade Cargill guitar!) to listen to my version of Bill Withers' classic three chorder - Aint No Sunshine. Fire up the band boys!

Fever

Well, this song needs no introduction. First made famous by Peggy Lee and covered by everyone from Madonna to Michael Buble, this is quite simply, a song about getting it oooonnnn….Click here or on the picture to listen my version. Incidentally, I provide all the backing vocals too..

What a Wonderful World

In a world where stupidity reigns supreme, this beautiful song needs to be sung by everyone. It is a beautiful world, and one day everyone will understand that. I live for that day. We all want to play with our children, feed our families and be happy, no matter whether we are Muslim or Jewish or Christian, black, white or polka dotted. If only we could see the beauty in all of us and the potential that lies within humankind. These days I wonder if the word 'humankind' has its own inbuilt oxymoron. Click here to listen to my version of this classic song, one which the world should use as an anthem instead of the ones they use to incite young men to kill each other...

Stormy Weather

A bit of a Blues touch to make that stormy night a little warmer. First sung by Lena Horne, this great song gets a bluesy makeover. Click here to listen to my version of a song so sad that even the sunniest day is filled with long black clouds...

L.O.V.E

What does L.O.V.E stand for? Well listen to this great classic by Nat King Cole and find out! And, who doesn’t like Nat King Cole? What a beautiful voice that man had! Click here to hear my version of a great song

Almost Like Being in Love

This is a good time song about a good time feeling—that euphoric feeling you get when you fall in love...well, almost. I love singing this song. It makes you feel... good. Click here to listen to my version.

Chances Are I was born left handed...

Chances Are is a beautiful Johnny Mathis song that has been one of my favourites since I was a little boy. My Mum used to play Johnny Mathis all the time when I was a boy. Mum , I sang this for you...To listen, click here or on the picture of me, my sister and my Mum, taken at around the time I was beginning to know who Johnny Mathis was. I was also being trained in the fine art of dexterity, as opposed to the sinistry with which I had been born. (Sinister means left handed, folks...)

I've Got You Under My Skin

This Frankie Classic is just one you have to sing…it gets under your skin and you just have to get it out.. Click here to listen my version.

I Wanna Be Around

It has been said that revenge is a dish best served cold. I think it was Shakespeare. Me? Not interested. But for those who have been left to cry over beers while their former lovers are in the arms of lesser mortals, this song says it all. I Wanna Be Around is the song of a man who wants to watch someone get their comeuppance..(is that how you spell comeuppance?) Click here or the picture for my try at Tony Bennett's classic song. Oh, and sorry Greg, but I needed to use this picture for something sooner or later...:-)

The Tender trap

Ah, 'tis God's great game, this falling in love business. He watches from afar and sees us blindly going in where fools would fear to tread. The logical, Vulcan mind would never commit such folly. But, for millenia, humans have been falling in love and finding themselves in the inextricable clutches of the Tender Trap. This song is from the movie of that name, starring Frank Sinatra and Debbie Reynolds. I love singing this one at weddings...for a bit of fun. Click here or on the picture to hear my version...

Bad Gas? No, its a Summerwind!

This classic Sinatra tells the tale of a Summer love, taken by a summerwind. Perhaps he should have eaten less chili..Click here or on the picture for my take on this Frankie fart song..

The Best is Yet to Come

Is your relationship going nowhere? Perhaps the anticipation of better things is gone. Well, do what Frankie did. Make a promise you look forward to keeping...Click here or on the picture for my version of a song that makes sure nobody runs from you too quickly...

Fly Me to the Moon!

Fly Me to the Moon is just a great old song that can be done in many styles. I have two of them recorded, so I thought I would give you a listen to both, if you want to that is. The first is a more standard version. Click here for that. The second is more in the instrumental stylings of Tony Bennett. The vocal stylings fall short unfortunately...Click Here for that one.
